For over half a century, Marder Seafood has been a trusted leader in premium, sustainably sourced seafood. Based in New Bedford, MA — the scallop capital of the world — we specialize in dry sea scallops and bay scallops, fresh and frozen seafood, and innovative, chef-inspired value-added products designed for wholesale, food service, grocery, and club stores.
A Change in Course
Marder Seafood’s story began in the 1960s, when Myron Marder, an accountant turned fleet owner, recognized the potential of the New Bedford scalloping industry. Under his leadership, Marder Seafood quickly grew into a powerhouse, operating the largest scallop fleet in the region during its early years.
A Legacy Built at Sea
Among its notable vessels was the Columbia, commissioned in 1985 — the last wooden-hulled scalloper ever built. Crafted with 80,000 feet of Maine oak, the 88-foot vessel was designed for superior insulation and as a tribute to the craftsmanship of wooden boatbuilders.
